There are a few techniques in jewelry-making that leave us transfixed and at a loss for words. Our Artesima bracelet features the intricate beauty of hand-woven wirework- the beautiful outcome at the intersection of time and time-honored practices. This bracelet is available in two metals, warmly toned brass or sterling silver. Each version is entirely suitable for solo wear, but because we know ourselves, and you, we finished both with an Italian crafted sterling silver charm clip, enabling you to augment the piece with whatever charms suit your mood.
BEHIND THE DESIGN
Inspired in equal parts by traditional Italian wirework, heirloom lacemaking techniques (Google ‘tatting’ = amazing!), a microdive into the history and symbolism of braiding (unifying materials in such a way that the end result is literally stronger and richer than individual strands), our ARTESIMA BRACELET would not exist without the creative translation and handwork of our Balinese artisans. Balinese jewelry workers and silversmiths are known for their intricate braid-inspired chainwork, which has a gorgeous and fascinating history of its own. With this in mind, we approached our artisans as collaborators, hoping for some creative alchemy -- with the idea of riffing off our Italian heritage/flirting with a lacier style, and were beyond delighted with the “translated” result. We intended the ARTESIMA BRACELETS design to celebrate just that, the beautiful outcome at the intersection of time and time-honored practices. The interweaving of inspiration sources, fabrication styles, and materials (brass and Sterling Silver wire, Sterling Silver charm clips) is a kind of metaphoric braid itself.
